The ancient convent of Saint Domenico, built together with the church of the same name in the thirteenth century and transformed in the 19th century into a College by the name of Fontevecchia Collegio, it houses nowadays the Municipal Archaeological Museum. The museum preserves peculiar finds coming from the local collection and traces its history starting from its birth: this is just the beginning of the future Museum’s setting for the protohistoric and Roman section. The convent of San Domenico is placed above a great complex of underground cisterns built in the Roman era (1st century AD) accessible by people from the same entrance. The Roman cisterns, used to collect spring water and rainwater in order to provide water to the whole City, it is still the largest ever discovered in Italy today, consisting of thirty rooms built on three parallel rows
